5th Grade

I have always described myself as an inquisitive person, and that character trait has always driven me to learn constantly.  I graduated from Horn Lake High School in 2004.  Upon graduation, I attended Northwest Community College in Senatobia for two years and then spent my next three years immersing myselfin Delta culture at Delta State University.  There, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in English/Reading and Social Studies.

Before moving back to Southaven, I taught third grade for two years at McEvans Elementary in Shaw, MS.  This experience was highly beneficial to my experience in the classroom and taught me many lessons about being a teacher.  In addition to my experience in the classroom, I served on several committees as well as being an after school tutor and cheerleading sponsor. Among these lessons were learning to differentiate instruction to meet each child's needs as well as motivating students to learn in spite of many obstacles.  I have now been at Southaven Intermediate for four years.  I continue to be extremely proud to be a Charger, and I look forward to my fifth year here.

I am a proud citizen of Memphis, and I am even prouder to be a downtowner!  I have lived downtown for two years and have discovered so much about the city I grew up in.  I have a very strong passion for education.  Nelson Mandela said it best when he said that "Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world."  In addition to my passion for education, I have a deep love for helping those who are in need- with emphasis on the underpriveleged, homeless, and orphans.  Along with a couple of other teachers here at SIS, I have had the privelege to start Hunger 2 Hope.  Hunger 2 Hope has been a huge blessing to SIS and is now spreading to other schools in DeSoto County.  I am the proud sponsor of two little boys named Brian and David who live in an orphanage in Kenya, Africa.  I have been very excited to see what an interest students have taken in finding out about these two boys and where they live!  My hobbies include reading, making things I find on Pinterest, cooking, running, playing with my dog, traveling, watching LSU football, and spending time with my family and friends.
