Bio

Welcome to the STEM Lab.  My name is Leslie Allen.  I will be promoting science exclusively this year as an activity teacher.   I am also a sponsor of the 5th grade Science Club and a coordinator of the school garden. Please allow me to tell you a little about myself.  I am a lifelong resident of Southaven.  My husband, Frank, and I have been married for over 29 years. We have three wonderful daughters:  Brooke, the math coach at SIS, Adriane, a dental hygienist in Olive Branch, and Claire, a student at NWCC.  As you can see, we are spread out across Desoto County! My family is also very active in community, sport, and church activities.

I graduated from Southaven High School in 1986 and cum laude from Ole Miss in 2006.  During that 20 year span I was busy raising my girls, leading Girl Scouts, homeschooling, teaching pre-school, tutoring at Hope Sullivan Elementary, and being an active member of their PTO.  I  spent six years teaching fifth grade at Greenbrook Elementary and SIS. This is my sixth year in the Science Lab.

My teaching philosophy is simple: make learning fun and interactive, keep parents involved and informed, and bring real world experiences into the classroom.  I like to incorporate group work and peer partner activities into my lessons while stressing individual responsibility.

I am so excited about this school year.  I look forward to meeting and working with parents across the school.  Together, we form a great team with the goal of making this a successful and rewarding year.
