Mrs. April Rucker, Principal

It is an honor to be the Principal of Southaven Intermediate School. I am committed to ensuring all students have a safe and nurturing learning environment where they can reach their full individual potential. Our students will build strong academic, social, and emotional foundations through meaningful and creative learning opportunities.

The children are our number one priority; therefore, we will strive to create opportunities for the parents, community, and all stakeholders to be involved at Southaven Intermediate School. We encourage you to join our PTO and become an active participant in your child’s education. We welcome your support and involvement in our activities.

The faculty and I are looking forward to a great year with your child. We are passionate about their academic, social, and emotional growth during their years at SIS. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

 

BIO: Before becoming Principal at Southaven Intermediate School, Mrs. April Rucker was the Principal of Lake Cormorant Elementary School for two years, and prior to that, she served as an Assistant Principal at Southaven Intermediate School for three years. April Rucker received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from The University of Mississippi, and later, her Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.  Mrs. Rucker began her career as a teacher at Southaven Middle School, and she worked as a teacher and basketball coach at DeSoto Central Middle School.  She is well-rounded in the field of education and desires to invoke a true passion for teaching and learning. Mrs. Rucker is married to Laveil Rucker, and they have three daughters, Tylah, India, and Zion, and three sons Kevin, Isaiah, and Caleb. She attends Brown Baptist Church in Southaven. She enjoys spending time with her family and watching her youngest two children play volleyball and football.

Assistant Principals

Mr. Newson, Asst. Principal

Mr. Jonathan Newson, Asst Principal

Jonathan Newson is a product of Greenville, MS.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from Delta State University in Biology. He later received his Master’s degree from University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction and his Specialist’s degree from Arkansas State University in Educational Leadership. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. He has taught at Strayhorn Schools (3 years), Lake Cormorant Middle School (8 years) and Hernando Middle School (3 years). He also served as an assistant principal at Senatobia Middle School for 2 years.

Mr. Newson is married to Dr. Shereka Newson. They have two children, Jamil and Jamiya.

He is also a proud and faithful member of the Northwest Church of Christ located in Southaven, MS.

Mrs. Anna Claire Parker, Asst Principal

Anna Claire Parker is honored to be a part of the administrative team at Southaven Intermediate School.  She graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor's Degree in Integrative Studies (K-6).  She continued her education at Arkansas State and received a Masters in Educational Leadership.  Mrs. Parker spent the first 9 years of her professional career as an 8th grade math teacher at Hernando Middle School.  She worked as the State Testing Coordinator and Interventionist at Horn Lake Middle School for the 2020-2021 school year. 

Mrs. Parker is married to her high school sweetheart, Dustin Parker.  Together, they have 2 daughters- Piper and Eloise.  They attend Longview Point Baptist Church in Hernando.  Mrs. Parker is excited to serve the amazing school community at SIS.

Mr. Robert (Mac) Wilkie, Asst Principal

Robert Wilkie is excited to continue his time as a Charger as a member of the administrative team at Southaven Intermediate School after spending the last nine years working at Southaven High School as an English Teacher. Mr. Wilkie graduated from Delta State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies Education and later earned a Master`s Degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.
